Dr Simon Ferdinand is a Veni postdoctoral researcher at the University of Amsterdam and academic editor. His work explores the politics and poetics of geographical representation, focusing particularly on historically marginal images of the Earth as a whole.

Ferdinand received his MRes (with distinction) from the University of Warwick in 2012 and PhD (cum laude) from the University of Amsterdam in 2017. His current project, Untimely World Pictures (2021-25), is funded by a prestigious Veni grant from the Dutch Research Council. His institutional page can be found here. He has taught art history at the University of Warwick, visual culture at Amsterdam University College, and globalization studies at the University of Amsterdam.
